Ms. Silvia Powledge

My name is Silvia Pugliese Powledge and I was born in Italy. My parents, my grandfather and I moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I grew up. I grew up speaking Italian at home and Spanish at school. I always liked languages; therefore, I decided to study English in College, and I attained a bachelor's in English from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After teaching English in high school for two years in Buenos Aires; I applied for a scholarship to go to an English-speaking country. Of course, I was one of the lucky ones to win the scholarship; which took me to New Orleans, Louisiana. This scholarship allowed me to take courses at Tulane University in New Orleans and also get certified as a teacher in the United States. At the same time, I taught English as a Second Language and Spanish in a middle school in New Orleans.
After New Orleans, I lived in Texas where I completed my Master's Degree in Spanish and ESOL. Later, I moved to Georgia and I taught Spanish, ESOL and Italian at the University of South Carolina at Aiken for 11 years. Finally, I moved to Aiken where I got certified in South Carolina to teach at the secondary level. While in Aiken, I taught ESOL for Aiken county schools for five years, and I taught Spanish at Silver Bluff High School from November 2010 though June 2021. Currently, I am teaching Spanish II courses at North Augusta High School.
